Verizon will stop selling unlocked iPhones

According to CNET, Verizon wants to stop selling unlocked iPhones in order to, quote, deter criminals from stealing the devices. Starting this summer, all Verizon phones will remain locked to the network until unlocked by Verizon, a process which will possibly take a long time to complete. This new policy is, at least officially, aimed towards preventing thieves from stealing unlocked phones and then reselling them. We have yet to learn how will Verizon’s new unlocking policy work.
