Patent dispute causes HTC to stop shipping its phones to the UK

Ipcom vs. HTC, 1:0. Research and development company Ipcom, hailing from Munich, has entered a patent dispute with the Taiwanese developers. The dispute concerns car phones. Back in 2012, HTC agreed to sell their car phones in the UK with a workaround. Unfortunately (for HTC, at least), Ipcom has proven via testing that HTC did not in fact implement the workaround and instead continued to sell their products, which violated Ipcom’s patent, in a case of, as Ipcom put it, ”disregard for the law by contravening a UK court ruling”.HTC’s official response, given to the ...

Is HTC pulling out of China?

It seems so. According to the message on HTC’s Weibo account, the TMall and Jingdong Chinese online stores are no longer selling that company’s smartphones. HTC devices can still be bought via either HTC’s online store or the physical one in Shenzhen, but supplies seem to be running dry as some of their newest phones are listed as Out of Stock. What might be the reason behind this disappearance? No one knows for sure. The official spiel of HTC is one of long-term business strategy for China, and that can mean anything. Some people believe that HTC needs to drastically cut ...

Android One program HTC U11 Life has its OS updated in Europe

The Android One program continues its relentless work against the Android OS fragmentation. Its newest victory is updating the 2017 smartphone HTC U11 Life’s operating system to its newest version, 9 Pie. Device used to run on Oreo and, without the Android One program, it probably would not see the Pie update for a long time, if ever. The update is currently available over-the-air in parts of Europe, and will eventually cover the whole old continent (hopefully). The US update will have to wait, as their U11 Life comes with a Sense skin that requires more work in order to get it to ...

HTC is making a new mid-ranger, gets certified

HTC may have concentrated on high-end premium devices lately, but the company seems to be finally throwing a bone to the lower-cost spectrum of buyers. This bone is code-named HTC 2Q720000 and it has just received its Wi-Fi Alliance certification. Certification says very little of its specs, only that it will be run by Android 8.1 Oreo and its CPU will be a Snapdragon 435. Rumour is that a variant with Snapdragon 625 will also be available. ...

Rumour goes that the HTC U12 Life will not be made by HTC

According to an allegedly reliable leakster, HTC will outsource the production of its upcoming mid-ranger U12 Life (which may or may not be called differently). The leakster does not know who will HTC’s original design manufacturer be. As for the reason for the outsourcing, it probably has something to do with HTC’s recent financial problems; lets not forget that the company recently had to lay off a quarter of its Taiwanese employees.By the way, the phone will probably have Android 8.1 Oreo on board. ...
