The Mannheim Regional Court today dismissed a lawsuit filed by Motorola against Apple concerning what Motorola called a standards essential 3G/UMTS patent. The patent in question covered the “method and system for generating a complex pseudonoise sequence for processing a code division multiple access [CDMA] signal.” The judge overseeing the lawsuit said that Motorola did not effectively argue its case, and ruled that Apple is not infringing on the patent. Verizon Wireless has released a software update for the Motorola DROID BIONIC that addresses a number of bugs and performance issues with the Android 2.3 Gingerbread smartphone. The carrier says that the update improves data connections to both 3G and 4G networks, fixes a bug that caused the phone to display a black screen that required a battery pull to resolve, improves performance with the Lapdock accessory, and fixes various other issues throughout the device.
