LG Extravert Hits Verizon’s Prepaid Lineup

Verizon Wireless recently added the LG Extravert to its lineup of prepaid cell phones. The Extravert is a sideways slider with full QWERTY keyboard for messaging and a 2.8-inch WQVGA touch screen (400 x 240 pixels). It runs on LG’s feature phone touch OS and is limited to 1X data. The Extravert claims to be green, with 30% of the battery cover coming from recycled materials, and no cadmium, lead, or mercury in the battery. LG Outs Plan to Upgrade Some Smartphones to Android 4.0

LG today indicated via its Facebook page that it will update a handful of its Android smartphones to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. The first wave of phones LG is committing to update includes the Optimus 2X, the Optimus Black, the Optimus 3D, and the Optimus LTE. These phones are available in markets outside the U.S. LG said that it is still evaluating whether or not it can upgrade other devices, such as those sold by T-Mobile (G2X) and AT&T (Thrill 4G). LG Nitro HD for AT&T Packs LTE and HD Display

AT&T today announced the LG Nitro HD, a new Android smartphone that supports AT&T’s Long Term Evolution 4G and HSPA+ networks, and includes a 4.5-inch AH-IPS (Advanced High-Performance In-Plane Switching) display with 1280 x 720 pixels for HD resolution. LG says the display offers 500 nit brightness, which lets it be used in direct sunlight, and RGB stripe pixels, which it says offer better color representation. LG Seeks Patent Protection Via Intellectual Ventures

Intellectual Ventures today announced that it has agreed to license its portfolio of 35,000 technology patents to LG Electronics. In addition to access to Intellectual Ventures’ patent portfolio, LG can also participate in Intellectual Ventures’ IP-for-Defense program, which helps protect companies from patent-based litigation.
