Dum dum DUMM! Real name of Android O just leaked! Probably

Most of the time we heard that Orea will be the next Android’s name. Wrong! According to this leak, Android O will in fact be called Oatmeal Cookie. There are at least two bits of evidence for that. First is a phrase ”oc-dev” that repeats through the phone’s system code multiple times; second is a picture taken from the Google I/O presentation, where a phrase ”R.drawable.oatmeal_cookie” appears in one of the code lines.I must admit that this is some legitimate proof. Unless it was an elaborate prank that Android played on us all, it can be said with an ...

Contraband-delivering drones are still a nuisance

While ago I wrote about an old phenomenon that is prison contraband and a new way of committing it, namely by drones. Lets say there is a convict who wants some XXX material to read, a cellphone for calling his dearest grandmother and a few grams of cocaine to make his stay in prison a bit more tolerable. Using his contacts, he (or she – lets be fair) orders a delivery. The order is being collected by someone ”on the outside”. That outside person then buys a drone worth one hundred bucks (reasonable price, seeing how it can be used multiple times and how much said person ...

Nokia 3 and 5 finally up for pre-order in the UK, no word on Nokia 6

Recent Nokia budget phones are still unavailable in the United Kingdoms. Not for long, though – Nokia 3 is coming out on July 12 (£129.99), while Nokia 5 will be available on July 19 (£179.99). You do not have to wait for retail, too, as both devices can already be pre-ordered on Amazon and Clove (although they cost ten to twenty pounds more on the latter).Nokia 3 is available in blue and white, while Nokia 5 can be bought in blue, black or silver. Unfortunately, there is no mention of Nokia 6, but hey, it has to resurface sooner or later, right? ...

Nokia promises two years of updates for Nokia 3, 5 and 6

Nokia 3, 5 and 6 have been recently introduced to South African customers. During the release conference, though, another important thing has been announced. CEO of HMD Global, Arto Nummela, has officialy stated that those three Nokia devices will be receiving Android updates for at least next two years. Hooray! Even Nokia 3, which is ran by MediaTek chipset (and MediaTek does not support latest Android 7.1.1 Nougat OS) will be getting regular updates. Arto Nummela also reconfirmed that all three devices will be getting monthly security updates. So, all in all, thanks, Nokia. You have ...

Chinese phone case that changes colour with temperature

This Chinese phone case has a cool little effect to it – it changes its colour when affected by high temperature. Normally, the case is red, but when touched by something of around 35 Celcius degrees it temporarily changes to yellow. The above picture, well, pictures this very well – holding the phone in your hand leaves cool, yellow marks on the case, making it look like some kind of postmodernistic painting worth at least 500 thousand dollars. Hot summer is probably the best time to play around with it.For a Chinese gadget, case is pretty well made – it is said to be ...

Sprint wants to ”dramatically boost” LTE Plus capacity and coverage in the United States

Reportedly, Sprint works on new technology called Massive MIMO (short for multiple input, multiple output) tech. MIMO’s goal is to improve LTE Plus’ coverage as well as mobile Internet speed. How does this MIMO work, exacly? Long story short, it allows more than a single data signal to be sent and received between nodes (e.g. website’s servers and your smartphone) over the same radio channel. In addition, MIMO also allows for beamforming, which enhances data signals.New tech is currently being tested in Suwon, South Korea, and the results are said to be promising. ...

Samsung Galaxy Folder 2 launched in South Korea

Galaxy Folder 2 itself is old news. Released ten months ago, Galaxy Folder 2 is one of Samsung’s flip phones – basically a mid-ranger with a physical keyboard (Snapdragon 425 CPU, 2GB RAM, 16GB storage, 3.8′ LCD screen, strangely small 1950mAh battery et cetera, all of that for 260 dollars). The only reason I am writing this is that, for those ten months, Samsung’s flip phone was a China-only exclusive. Releasing the device is South Korea means that maybe, just maybe perhaps possibly it will eventually get released elsewhere as well.Would you like that, or do you not ...

iPhone 8 delayed because of the fingerprint scanner?

If things go south, and they may, we will not be seeing iPhone 8 until October or November 2017. Why? Problematic fingerprint scanner. According to the research memo obtained by AppleInsider, Apple wants to put 8’s scanner under the phone’s screen instead of its back, but still has not cracked just the right way of doing so. Methods the company is considering are:– to thin the glass over the sensor,– integrate a sensor into the display using infrared technology,– make a pinhole in the glass. We do not know which method will be chosen, but Apple is, reportedly, ...

New ZTE phone surfaced, received TENAA certification. That phone has a lot of buttons…

Quite an informative certification, too. We have the phone’s picture, so we know how it will look, and we have its specification.
