The good news is that the 2x SIM version of the device is in the works; the bad news is that it will probably be exclusive to China. China Telecom has just published the render of the dual-SIM variant of the iPhone Xs (or Xs Max, the jury is still out on that one). Beta 5 of the iOS 12 allegedly supports this option. According to Bloomberg, iPhone Xs with dual-SIM will be available in countries other than China, but in very limited numbers. Tweet Vote on HN ...

iPhone Xs crash-tested
Original article available at Jack Telecom. Long story short, Apple’s newest smartphone is here (or soon to be here, depending on your country). Naturally, the device had to be crash-tested. Its first test was committed accidentally – a happy owner from Hong-Kong had the misfortune of dropping his unit while trying to take some photos. The results are not pretty, as shown by the picture above. Strong curved glass did not survive the impact with the ground, shattering like its owner’s good mood. Apple’s claims of iPhone Xs sporting ”the strongest 4-curved ...

T-Mobile G1, the first Android phone, nears its 10th birthday
It was ten years ago, in the good old days of 2008, that Google, T-Mobile, and HTC have announced T-Mobile G1 (also known as HTC Dream), the first Android OS-based mobile phone on the market. While the device was not perfect, even back in the day, it did offer something that iPhone did not, namely an open, customizable experience – something that Apple was and still is vehemently against. T-Mobile G1 included a pre-installed Android Market, native apps for Gmail and Maps and option to download music via Amazon. If any of these apps did not work, though, you were out of luck, as Google ...

California government wants to ban simplistic default passwords
You have bought yourself a new device, like networked storage or a router. You go through the process of installation, use the default password ”admin” or ”1234” or whatever, install it and then change the password. It is just common sense, right? Well, many Americans are seemingly failing with the last part of the process, because lawmakers in California want to ban such default passwords. Their reasoning is that the Internet is plagued with malware that is good at finding out devices with weak security measures and can infect your computer even during the few ...

Huawei will never let go of a chance to make a joke about Apple, and their latest action is a golden example of how to troll right. Upon the day of release of these smartphones in Singapure, Huawei has sent a number of their employees to the Apple store. These employees were equipped… with two hundred 10mAh power banks, each of them signed ”Here is a power bank. You will need it. Courtesy of ...
This time, Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge blew up
Yep, time for this old dance again. Redditer from Morocco going by the nickname rokhana has took to the internet to tell the story of how his or her device went away. Long story short, they kept their smartphone in a back pocket. They took it out to take a picture, upon which the device froze and turned off. Shortly after the device suddenly erupted in flames and had to be doused.Samsung has yet to release an official statement regarding the event. While I sympathize with the struggle of suddenly losing one’s smartphone (rohkana received a replacement Galaxy S9 from Samsung, so all is ...
Old iPhones work faster with iOS 12
Tests performed by the ArsTechnica service confirm that the latest iOS improves the performance of old Apple devices. Tests have been performed on, among other devices, iPhones 5 and 6S Plus and an iPad 2 Mini. Results clearly show an increase in performance when based to iOS 10.3.3 and older Apple operating systems. For example, Safari browser takes up to 2 seconds to start on older operating systems, while it only takes 1.15 second on iOS 12. Camera takes similiarly shorter time to turn on with the iOS 12 than with its older versions. These are not large differences, but certainly enough ...
