The European Commission has approved Google’s proposed $12.5 billion acquisition of Motorola Mobility. “This is an important milestone in the approval process and it moves us closer to closing the deal,” said Google in a statement. “We are now just waiting for decisions from a few other jurisdictions before we can close this transaction. As we outlined in August, the combination of Google and Motorola Mobility will help supercharge Android.” Last week, the Wall Street Journal reported that the U.S. Department of Justice was likely to approve the deal as early as this week.
