Verizon Wireless has begun distributing an update for the Motorola DROID X2 smartphone. The update fixes a handful of bugs in the device’s software and patches a security hole. Unfortunately it does not update the DROID X2 to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, and Motorola has not announced plans to do so in the future. The Mannheim Regional Court today dismissed a lawsuit filed by Motorola against Apple concerning what Motorola called a standards essential 3G/UMTS patent. The patent in question covered the “method and system for generating a complex pseudonoise sequence for processing a code division multiple access [CDMA] signal.” The judge overseeing the lawsuit said that Motorola did not effectively argue its case, and ruled that Apple is not infringing on the patent.
