Kaz Hirai steps down as CEO of Sony, CFO Kenichiro Yoshida will take over

Bit of a shuffle in Sony’s leadership takes place, with ex-CEO Kaz Hirai transitioning into a chairman role and Kenichiro Yoshida becoming a new chief executive officer. Officially, Kenichiro Yoshida will be taking over on April 1st. According to Variety news site, the reason for Hirai stepping down is being ”worn down from the travel schedule he’s maintained during the past six years as CEO”. It may well be true; leading any large company is hard work. Hirai taking on the role of a chairman is not 100% confirmed but probable. Kenichiro Yoshida commented by saying ...

Sony Xperia L2 – specifications

We do not really know when the Xperia L2 will debut on the market. Some believe that the phone will be released next week, during the Las Vegas’ CES 2018. It would be nice to see this phone come out – judging by its specifications, Sony’s new phone is a very decent mid-ranger:– 5.5′ screen, 16:9, HD,– Snapdragon 630 CPU, 8 cores, 2,2 GHz,– Adreno 508 GPU,– 4GB RAM,– Android 7.0 Nougat,– dimensions: 149,9 – 78,4 – 9,8 mm.Good CPU and graphics, decent display, old-ish OS (hopefully they will update it fast). Could be ...

New pictures of Sony Xperia XA2 Ultra

Sigh. Wide frames? Check. Empty spaces beneath and under the display? Check. Same old overall design? Check-check. If someone expected that Xperia XA2 Ultra will be Sony’s first promised attempt at re-designing their smartphone series, well, they were wrong. Xperia XA2 Ultra is just a mid-ranger, though, so hopefully Sony will show us something actually new and mildly exciting with their new flagship. As for Xperia XA2 Ultra, it is said to debut next month.– 6′ Full HD display, 1080p,– Snapdragon 630 CPU,– 4GB RAM, 64GB storage memory,– single 21mpx ...

New render of Sony Xperia XZ2. Looks like there will be some changes

Sony used to be the king of smartphones, but this king has fallen from grace in recent years, having to leave the throne in favour of stronger contenders. The reason for this fall was Sony lagging behind – holding onto old designs, not keeping up with the modern trends etc. Today, though, I am happy to say (alright, in all honestly I do not care at all) that Sony’s Xperia XZ2 has a chance of bringing some fresh air into the Sony’s offer. The newest news on the upcoming Xperia XZ2 is this render of the back panel of the phone. Upon examination, it reveals these two ...

Specs of one Sony H8216 leaked

If these specifications are to be believed, Sony H8216 is to be a small upgrade over the Xperia XZ1 model. As for release date, Sony is ...

Sony H8541, specification

Something interesting has just been uploaded on Reddit, namely a chart with specification of an upcoming Sony phone named H8541. It looks pretty interesting:– 5.7′ screen, Gorilla Glass 5,– Snapdragon 835 CPU,– 4GB RAM, 64GB ROM,– 3420mAh battery, Quick Charge 3.0,– USB-C,– Android 8.0 Oreo OS.Noteworthy is also the size of the phone. 149 x 74 x 7,5 mm is pretty small for a 5.7′ display device. Someone plans on having really thin bezels… Sony H8541 is said to be released in February ...

Sony Xperia XZ Premium gets Android 8.0 Oreo update

Some phones have to wait for the update (my last post on HTC U11), while some are getting it here and now. Among the new features of the update are:– tuning improvements to the front-facing speakers,– aptX HD audio support,– 3D Creator, Sony’s new 3D scanning feature,– Autofocus Burst and Predictive Capture camera features. The former is used for capturing pictures of moving, blurred objects, while ...

Sony Xperia XZ Premium. New colour and update to Android Oreo

Hurray. Sony’s June flagship, Xperia XZ Premium, is getting a new colour variant. It is called Rosso, although I imagine most normal people will be calling it red instead. XZ Premium Rosso should go out for sale sometime in November. What else? As it turns out, Xperia XZ Premium’s OS will stay quite up to date for a while, as Sony wants to update it to Oreo 8.0 before the end of this year. The update will be available to Japanese owners first, but should go out globally shortly ...

Sailfish X, a new operating system for Sony Xperia X

Jolla, Finnish tech company, has officially introduced Sailfish X, a Sailfish operating system for Sony Xperia X smartphone. OS will become available for pre-order on September 27th, for a price of €49.90. Now that we have the basic info out of the way, what the heck is this Sailfish, and why does it exist?Well, it is an OS. Duh. As to why would someone want to work on this Sailfish X instead of Android, there is a list of good sides of owning this OS, although Jolla also informs us that users may face some difficulties, like lack of support for fingerprint sensor or FM radio and ...
