Galaxy Note 9 may have in-display fingerprint scanner

According to an already unavailable report from KGI, Samsung Galaxy Note 9 will come out with a fingerprint sensor built into the phone’s display. Samsung’s decision is said to have been influenced by Apple moving away from the rear-mounted fingerprint scanner in its upcoming iPhone 8 – in other words, Samsung wants to keep up with the gimmicks. Report also states that Note 9’s fingerprint scanner will use Egis sensors, which is significantly costlier than Synaptics, sensors that the company used before. These are extremely early rumours – after all, Galaxy Note ...

Samsung ramps up the OLED panels production

According to a Korean (yeah, South Korean) report, Samsung wants to drastically increase the production output of OLED panels. Seven different production lines are said to increase their output by 700%, going from making 15,000 panels per month to 105000. Such an increase would amount to roughly 130 million screens per year (I see a different number, but I was never good at math) – although it would probably be much lower due to random events and technical difficulties. How will this influence Apple turning to LG for its OLED panel supply, we do not ...

Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus are getting an Android 7.1 update

According to Vodafone Australia, the most recent Galaxy S8/S8+ update has just been submitted for review (by whom, Vodafone?). Review is the last stage such updates have to pass before being rolled out. If that is true, then Australia and, presumably, other countries worldwide will be getting their Galaxy S8/S8+ updates any day now. If aussies from Vodafone Australia are to be believed, update will cover mainly a number of, quote, stability and bug fixes. Tweet Vote on HN ...

European Samsung Galaxy J5 receives an update

Samsung is pushing out a July security patch for the older Galaxy J5 smartphones in all of Europe. Update features a number of bug fixes and performance improvements, nothing major. It should download automatically at any moment now, but if it does not, head to Settings > About Device > Download Updates Manually.I am glad to see Samsung taking care of older phones, even budget ones, by keeping their security systems up to date. It is a shame, though, that Galaxy J5 still has not, and probably will not, receive an OS update to Nougat. Oh ...

Samsung Galaxy Note 8 just received its FCC certification

Galaxy Note 8 will be unveiled soon, at August 23rd, but that does not mean that the phone has to receive all its certifications. Device bears a model number SM-N950. FCC certification did not reveal much about the device: mostly just that it will support the CDMA and GSM networks’ full compatibility with US carriers. According to PhoneScopp, where the news comes from, also believes that Galaxy Note 8 will be compatible with LTE radio band 66. Tweet Vote on HN ...
