Apple’s new 4G LTE iPad still limits FaceTime to Wi-Fi

Despite featuring support for speedy 4G LTE service in the cellular version of its new iPad, Apple is still limiting the FaceTime video chat feature to Wi-Fi connections, a holdover from the 3G versions of the iPad that were constrained for bandwidth. One would think that with the greater bandwidth afforded by LTE (and early reviews show the iPad takes good advantage of it), Apple would allow FaceTime over cellular connections. iTunes Match Now Supports Movies, iOS 5.1 Announced

Apple today announced during a keynote address in San Francisco that its iTunes in the Cloud — or iTunes Match — service now supports 1080p movies. iOS device users will be able to access and sync their movies and television shows across Macs, iPads, iPhones, and iPods. Apple today announced a new version of iPhoto, its desktop photo editing and management software, for iOS devices including the iPhone and iPad. iPhoto for iOS supports a wide range of photo-editing features, including scrollable thumbnails, crop, rotate, exposure, contrast, saturation, and other multi-touch editing functions. The app supports “Brush Mode,” which can be used to add effects, remove blemishes, as well as sharpen or soften images. Apple Resumes Selling Older iPhones in Germany

Apple was able to convince a German court to suspend an injunction that went into effect earlier today that temporarily prevented it from selling the iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, and iPad 2 via its web site. Apple lost a patent ruling to Motorola in December that effects the aforementioned devices. The patents in question cover GPRS standards. Apple claims that Motorola is seeking licensing terms for the patents that don’t comply with fair, reasonable and non-discriminatory (FRAND) rules. Apple today revealed a significantly revised version of its iBooks application for the iPhone and iPad. iBooks 2 adds new elements for education, including support for textbooks. The textbooks feature offers full-screen textbooks with interactive animations, diagrams, videos, and photos; high-lighting and note-taking; and tools such as study cards, live questions, and a glossary. iBooks 2 is a free download from the iTunes App Store.
