Nokia has released the long-awaited update that promises to fix the Nokia Lumia 800’s less-than-perfect battery life.The first Nokia phone to run Microsoft’s Windows Phone operating system, the Lumia 800 has been beset by bugs since its release, most notably a very short battery life.The new software (version 1600.2487.8107.12070) is rolling out across the globe from today until April 18. Verizon Wireless Announces the LG Lucid

Verizon Wireless today announced the LG Lucid, an Android 2.3 Gingerbread smartphone that supports Verizon’s LTE 4G network and has a 4-inch display protected by Corning’s Gorilla Glass. Verizon points out features such as the Lucid’s Quick Reply feature which can be used to reject incoming calls, Quick Dialer widget, and Polaris Office. Other features include a 5-megapixel camera with 1080p HD video capture, user-facing camera, a dual-core 1.2GHz processor with 1GB or RAM, mobile hotspot, Video Producer software, and Swype. RIM Doesn’t Want to Talk to Analysts Until After BB10 Launch

Research In Motion has decided to postpone its annual analysts’ briefing until after it launches its forthcoming BlackBerry 10 platform. RIM typically briefs analysts at its yearly BlackBerry World event, which often takes place in May. “We decided to make BlackBerry World more focused on customers, developers and partners,” RIM spokeswoman Tenille Kennedy said to Reuters. “We will hold a separate session targeted at the interests of the investment community later this year, once BlackBerry 10 is launched.” RIM originally planned to launch BB10 and BB10 ...

Opera Mini 7 Now Available for Android

Opera today announced the availability of Opera Mini 7 for Android devices. Opera Mini 7 performs faster for Android due to improved hardware acceleration, according to Opera. Opera has also removed the limit on speed dial buttons (previously nine), and Opera Mini 7 now supports as many speed dial buttons as the user wishes. Opera says this negates the need for users to set up bookmarks, as the speed dial buttons can replace them. Apple, HTC, LG, RIM, Samsung Targeted by Patent Suit

A company called Graphics Properties Holdings recently filed a lawsuit against Apple, HTC, LG, RIM, Samsung, and Sony, alleging that the companies’ products violate its intellectual property. Specifically, the lawsuit covers a patent pertaining to how mobile devices process data and text into pixels on a display. The lawsuit names the Apple iPhone, HTC EVO 4G, LG Thrill, RIM BlackBerry Torch, Samsung Galaxy S/S II, and Sony Xperia Play as violating the patent. Nokia Moves Up Lumia 800 Firmware Update

Nokia today indicated that the firmware update planned to reach the Lumia 800 later this spring has been moved up and will be pushed out starting today. The newest software version is 1600.2487.8107.12070 and improves battery life, power management, camera performance, and in-call audio performance. This update does not, however, bring mobile hotspot or data tethering features to the Lumia 800. Nokia and Microsoft are still working to add those features.
