Sony Mobile Names New CEO

Sony Mobile today announced that effective May 16, Kunimasa Suzuki will become President and CEO of Sony Mobile Communications. Suzuki will replace current CEO Bert Nordberg, who will become chairman of Sony Mobile’s board of directors. Suzuki will be responsible for Sony Mobile’s consumer products and services, with the goal of creating an integrated user experience across Sony’s line of consumer electronics, including smartphones, tablets, and PCs. Sprint’s Latest EVO from HTC Adds 4G LTE, Brings Back Kickstand

Sprint and HTC today announced the EVO 4G LTE Android 4.0 smartphone. The EVO 4G LTE is a variant of the One X, but substitutes an aluminum frame and casing for the polycarbonate found on the One X. In addition to the aluminum, the EVO 4G LTE also has a bi-directional kickstand so it can be propped up two different ways for watching video content. Huawei Mercury Gains Access to Cricket’s Muve Music

Cricket Communications today announced that owners of the Huawei Mercury can now use the Muve Music service. Customers wishing to use Muve Music will need to update to the Muve Music plan, which offers music downloads, ringtones, and ringback tones, as well as unlimited messaging, unlimited 3G data, unlimited mobile video, and nationwide voice for $65 per month. Four More Regionals to Offer iPhone Starting April 20

Appalachian Wireless, GCI, Matanuska Telephone Association, and Celcom have all announced plans to sell Apple’s iPhone 4/4S. The four regional carriers join Alaska Communications and nTelos, which announced similar plans earlier this week. All the regional network operators will be offering the iPhones at a $50 discount compared to what the larger national carriers are charging. The devices will go on sale April 20. Sprint announced that it will start pushing Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich to the Samsung Nexus S 4G starting today. The update will be delivered in waves over the course of the next month. Nokia Lumia 710 Receiving Maintenance Update

Nokia announced that it is providing a maintenance update to the Lumia 710 smartphone. The update improves performance of the text messaging application, improves audio quality of the loudspeaker, improves calling functionality, and updates the 710 to the latest version of Windows Phone (v8107).
