Yep, for real this time. The update is already rolling out; if you have not received it already then you will soon. OS update to Android 8.0 Oreo brings with itself a plethora of software improvements, such as App Pair feature, new high contrast keyboard design, Dual Messenger and Picture-in-Picture mode. Bad news is that the updated device will not receive June security updates, at least not right away. Tweet Vote on HN ...

Chrome is working on logging online with biometrics. No more passwords!
Why remember stuff when you can just put your fat finger on the display? Rumour online is that Google is hard at work at implementing fingerprint scan access – feature well known from smartphones – to online websites. First step on this path was for Chrome to implement WebAuthn standard that allows such function. Fingerprint logging will reach Chrome soon, but will only be available for testers at first. Much depends on websites’ owners – without them implementing similiar standards the function will not ...
Facebook ”memories” are getting a lifting
That is great. I cannot wait to remember all the good moments that me and my eight Facebook friends have hardly spent together. Mm. I must be an exception, though, since seemingly lots of people enjoy their FB memories. It is for them that Zuckerberg is updating memories with new functions. New, modernized memories are said to be divided into a number of sections; one for the already known That Day, another for collage of events that you and your friends participated in, another for events that we missed by not spending every waking moment on social websites etc.New and better memories are ...
Data of 92 million people has been stolen or goddamn, every twat online can see your data now
This time the victim is MyHeritage, an Israeli organization that researches one’s lineage based on the DNA tests. If you thought that Facebook letting some hackers get away with 50 million accounts data was bad, check this out – nearly twice as much has been stolen from MyHeritage’s data banks. The attack has been performed last year – yeah… and the data stolen has belonged to everyone who has logged into the organisation’s website before 27th October 2017. MyHeritage has officially stated that the user’s DNA info, passwords and back account info ...
Huawei P9’s OS will not be updated to Android 8.0 Oreo. Too bad
Huawei P9 is a good, if a bit old (2016) flagship. It was a pretty popular phone that many people own to this day, which makes today’s news even worse; it is doubtful that P9 will receive any more large OS updates. Huawei manufacturer has recently took to the forums to inform that ”the P9 smartphone does not meet Google requirements for the Android 8.0 Oreo”. Ouchy. I guess we could have seen it coming – Huawei P8 has not even made it to Android 7.0. Keeping its phones up to date is, for some reason, often more than Huawei can/wants to do.It is a bit of a comforting ...
Nokia 5.1 Plus. Hooray, another phone with a notch
Please, explain to me, what is so cool about the notch? It takes up the display space and… what? Is it supposed to look cool or something? New version of Nokia 6.1 will be available in Europe soon
Nokii 6.1 is out in Europe for quite some time now. It is a decent smartphone, but a bit lackluster in the memory department. The new, bigger version of the device aims to fix this. Already released in Germany, this Nokia 6.1 offers 4GB instead of 4 and 64GB flash memory intead of 32. All the other specs, including a 5.5′ screen, Android 7.1 Nougat, 300mAh battery and 16mpx main camera, have remained the same. Phone’s price in Germany is 302 euro. Tweet Vote on HN ...
Hooray, another Samsung device blows up!
Oh boy, it has been so long! I can barely contain my enthusiasm! … ehm. Detroit, May 21st (I do not know why the news hit the Internet only now). A woman has been driving her car, with two Samsung devices (Galaxy S4 and Galaxy S8) in the car’s cupboard, when suddenly she saw sparks coming out of one of the smartphones, after which it caught fire. The woman reportedly barely mananged to pull over and get out of the vehicle before it was engulfed in flames. According to the victim’s testament, „I thought I was going to die when I saw the sparks and the ...
Elder Scrolls: Blades, or mobile Skyrim
Elder Scrolls: Blades is a mobile game taking place in The Elder Scrolls universe (also known, by the uneducated, as ”that Skyrim place”). Game’s reveal trailer is available here. It can be treated as mobile Skyrim, but that does not really tell the whole story, or so it seems. Blades can be played in one of three gameplay modes: Abyss, where the player traverses a procedurally generated dungeon, Town, where the focus of the game is building up your own place by completing quests and Arena, which is all about fighting enemies with particular sets of rules. Little is known ...
