Xinjiang, border crossing between China and Kyrgyzstan. There, chinese border agents have requisitioned some of the Muslim tourists crossing into China to hand over their smartphones, as well as share any passwords and unlock codes they deem neccessary. Border agents then analyze the tourist’s smartphones via a spyware application, scanning it for one or more of the 73,000 content types deemed dangerous by the regime. At least afterwards they return the phones and not burn them on a stake… Still, the tourists are not informed of the process, and agreeing to it is mandatory for being allowed to enter The People’s Republic of China.

Neat.
