Google made an app for Saudi men to track ”their” women, and they are not sorry

Speaking in video game terms, Google officially gets -5 to reputation with Decent Human Beings faction. The app in question, Absher, allows a number of functions, one of which is the ability to both track and restrict the travel of women and other dependents. Google has been pressed to cancel the app by fourteen members of the US Congress, Amnesty International and a number of human right activists. According to them, the app ”violates the human rights of Saudi women” and ”allows your companies (Google) and your American employees to be accomplices in the oppression of Saudi Arabian women and migrant workers”. Despite such heat, Google is standing by its decision to continue supporting the application.

Neat.
