New set of augmented reality tools will soon be available for Facebook Messenger. These new toys are called ”World Effects” and they allow putting 3D objects into the frame. Tool comes with a large number of pre-existing objects, but the more interesting option may be creating your own short, 3D messages to then render on the screen.

”World Effects” are aimed mostly towards the younger generations of Messenger users. It is probably Facebook’s goal to compete with Snapchat and its very similiar ”World Lens” feature for young people’s attention. If you ask me, both ”Worlds” are empty gimmicks good for impressionable eleven year olds, but what do I know, I am a cynical millenial.
