The most durable battery in the world is in the works

One Mike Zimmerman, a professor at the Tufts University (Massachussets, US), has invented a ”zombie-battery” that will not only never explode but will keep working even when severely damaged. That is a news worth noting, especially now that the classic lithium-ion batteries have proven to be quite unreliable (coughSamsungcough). If you want to learn more, check out this video. If you’d rather read than watch, then let me tell you that Mr. Zimmerman was able to make his battery safe by replacing the flammable liquid electrolyte inside the accumulator a plastic polymer that under no circumstances can produce fire. What is more is that this polymer is significantly less expensive to product than liquid electrolyte.

As usual with such news, battery is nowhere near being ready for mass production. There is still a number of issues that Professor Zimmerman has to work out (finding financing being one among them), but, still, here is to hope that in the near future we will not have to worry about having our cars, homes and faces burnt by exploding smartphones.
