Samsung plans to step up the ”discouragement from Note 7” program in South Korea

It is common knowledge that Samsung wants to forget – and make us forget, too – about the Note 7 fiasco A.S.A.P. The South Korean company has an ongoing exchange program for the Note 7 users, has released updates that limit the phone’s battery and, lately, made a deal with some of the mobile carriers around the world to cut the faulty phone line from the cellular network, rendering the phones useless.

Samsung is dealing hard with the Note 7… but only abroad. In its home turn, South Korea, there is still a lot (around 15% of all the owners) of people who have not given their Samsung Galaxy Note 7’s away. Last week we wrote that Samsung wants to deal with its home fanbase carefully as to not rouse any widespan complaints. It seems now that the company is finally making its move. Samsung’s spokesperson stated that the company will release another software update that will further hinder Note 7’s usability; what is more, they will extend the exchange program until the end of January 2017 (as of now, the exchange program in SK offers, in return for Note 7, a number of credits that can be spent on Samsung Galaxy S8 and/or Note 8 devices).
