LG has confirmed the launch of its Long Term Evolution (LTE) capable Optimus F5 smartphone, starting with France today and to extend globally over the coming weeks.
Based around a 4.3in in-plane switching (IPS) display with a 256ppi pixel density, the mid-range smartphone is powered by a dual-core 1.2GHz processor and 1GB of RAM. LG has confirmed that only one model is due to launch, with 8GB of internal storage – altohugh this can be easily upgraded by up to 32GB using the micro-SD card slot. A rear camera has a five megapixel sensor and a front-facing 1.3 megapixel camera is included for video chat functionality.
The smartphone includes Google’s Android Jelly Bean operating system, albeit in slightly outdated 4.1.2 form – meaning it lacks some of the advanced features Google introduced in Android 4.2. Nevertheless, it’s an improvement over previous Android releases and includes performance enhancements that users of mid-range devices with similar specifications running Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich or earlier will really see as a benefit.
LG has confirmed that the Optimus F5 will include a 2,150mAh battery, but has not yet stated just how long the device will run from a full charge. Given the smaller than average screen and dual-core processor, indications are good for a reasonable battery life.
