ITC Dismisses HTC Complaint Against Apple

The U.S International Trade Commission has dismissed a lawsuit filed against Apple by HTC. Today’s dismissal follows an initial decision made by a law judge in October of last year, wherein the judge ruled that Apple was not violating four patents as HTC claimed. HTC later withdrew a fifth patent from the lawsuit. HTC may still appeal the decision, but the ITC will not investigate the matter further. Apple has requested that the European Commission intervene and help settle its standards-essential patent dispute with Motorola. LG today announced the Optimus LTE Tag, a new Android phone that incorporates near-field communications and ships with NFC-based tags that can activate certain phone functions. Samsung has revealed via regulatory filings that it is going to separate its loss-generating LCD display panel business from the rest of the company. The new company will be called Samsung Display and will officially launch April 1 as a wholly owned subsidiary of Samsung Electronics.
