Research In Motion CEO Thorsten Heins today said that the QNX platform will be the basis of RIM’s mobile strategy for the next decade. He reiterated in a call to press this morning that the company believes in the strengths of QNX and the PlayBook 2.0 operating system. He said that PlayBook OS 2.0 and BlackBerry 10 will both arrive “soon” and will ship with the Android player. Heins also noted that the company still believes there is a huge business opportunity to convert feature phone users into smartphone users, so the company will continue to offer entry-level and mid-range BlackBerries in addition to its higher-end models. Heins noted that the company is currently seeking a new Chief Marketing Officer, and wants to see the company communicate better with its customers. “We need to be more marketing-driven, we need to be more consumer-oriented,” he said. He also said that the company needs to do a better job at executing its plans and strategies, and that will be one of his main goals moving forward. Heins doesn’t believe the company needs significant change, but that it does need to evolve faster with the market. Heins was appointed CEO of RIM on January 22, after former co-CEOs Mike Lazaridis and Jim Balsillie agreed to step down from their leadership roles with RIM.
