The Galaxy Tab 7.7 was originally announced at the IFA trade show back in September, and features, as the name implies, a 7.7-inch Super AMOLED Plus color WXGA touchscreen display. The display gave text great sharpness and rich browsing when we tested it out on the CES show floor. Under its hood is a zippy 1.4GHz, dual-core processor that runs Google’s Android 3.2 Honeycomb operating system. Samsung’s TouchWiz interface sits atop that, with its custom mini applets that can be launched from the bottom edge of the display – as you’ll see in the video, below.

The Tab 7.7 sports a thin 7.9mm frame and weighs in at 340g (12oz) and can be easily held in one hand. A 3 megapixel rear facing camera is on-board along with a user-facing 2 megapixel camera for video chatting. The device comes with 16GB of on-board storage, but it should be noted that it lacks both USB and HDMI ports but does offer an expandable (up to 32GB) microSD card slot.

Samsung now has the most Android tablets on the market with a 10-inch model, an 8.9-inch, a 7.7-inch, and two 7-inch variants. I don’t expect that the masses will run out to purchase this tablet, as has been the case with every Android tablet except for the Kindle Fire, but its display and compact form factor are sure to entice more than a few tablet fans. Verizon will offer the Galaxy Tab 7.7 in the coming weeks for an yet-to-be-announced price.
