Nokia to Discontinue Contacts Back-Up Service

Nokia today said that it plans to shut down the Nokia Contacts web site on January 24, 2012. Nokia Contacts allowed users fo Symbian smartphones to sync their contact data with Nokia’s servers for safe keeping. Nokia says that the change won’t affect the contacts stored on user devices, but Nokia recommends that users who want to back their contacts up to a web service export them from Nokia Contacts and choose Hotmail, Microsoft Outlook 2010, Yahoo! Mail, Gmail, or Apple Address Book instead. Nokia said it has made this decision due to the company’s shift to Windows Phone for its smartphone platform.
