Motorola today shared some information via its blog about how it is approaching Android 4.0 and updating its roster of smartphones to the newest operating system from Google. Now that the source code has been released by Google, Motorola has started step one in the process, which entails taking the source code and incorporating it into upgrades for devices on which the system can perform well, along with making sure the carrier requirements are met. Once that is complete, Motorola spends time debugging the code in step two before submitting it to the associated carrier for approval in step three. Motorola warns that the carriers each have their own approval process and this step can take months to complete. Once approved by carriers, Motorola may push the update to select customers for testing, followed by a full deployment in step four. Motorola said that it will provide Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich to as many of its phones as it can, but didn’t commit to phones other than the Droid RAZR, Droid Bionic, and Xoom tablet.
