HTC has said that it is going to reconsider its planned purchase of S3 Graphics now that S3 has lost a patent case against Apple in court. S3 makes graphics visualization technologies used in PCs, game consoles, and mobile devices. It sued Apple over patent rights and was handed a defeat by the U.S. International Trade Commission this week. HTC planned to purchase S3 Graphics, in part, due to its patents, with which it hoped to better defend itself against litigation. HTC didn’t say when a final decision will be made on the purchase, which will cost HTC $300 million if it proceeds.
