Nokia Picks ST-Ericsson for Future Windows Phone Chips

ST-Ericsson today announced that it has won a deal to supply wireless chips to Nokia for the Finnish phone maker’s future Windows Phone smartphones. To-date, all Windows Phone devices have included chips from Qualcomm. ST-Ericsson said it believes its chips will allow Nokia to build Windows Phone devices at a lower cost, allowing it to target different market segments and regions. Nokia recently revealed its first two Windows Phone 7 devices, the Lumia 800 and Lumia 710. Both use Qualcomm chips.
