Nokia N8 gets minor software update

Nokia is pushing out a software update to its N8 smartphone that addresses a number of bugs in the Symbian Anna platform that runs on the phone. Unfortunately, the update does not upgrade the N8 to Symbian Belle with its myriad of new features. Things that are improved with the update include quicker email and messaging, faster GPS locks, and fixes for minor bugs. HTC Rhyme Android smartphone now available from O2 UK

The HTC Rhyme is now available in the UK with wireless carrier O2. The Rhyme, which is being offered in the same plum color as Verizon Wireless here in the States, offers users Google’s Android 2.3 operating system as well as HTC’s own Sense 3.5 user interface on top. O2 is offering its UK customers HTC’s Sensation XE smartphone, which includes studio quality audio from Beats Audio by Dr. Dre in-ear headphones. The smartphone offers a speedy 1.5GHz dual-core processor, a 4.3-inch qHD widescreen touchscreen display, and Google’s Android OS. The device also sports an 8MP camera/camcorder and 16GB of memory. Sony to Buy Ericsson Out of Joint Venture

Sony today announced that it is going to purchase Ericsson’s share of the two companies’ Sony Ericsson cell phone joint venture for $1.47 billion. Once the purchase is complete, Sony Ericsson will become a wholly-owned subsidiary of Sony, which intends to integrate the handset division into its other consumer electronics products. RIM confirms BlackBerry PlayBook OS 2.0

RIM has taken to its blog to confirm that the BlackBerry PlayBook OS 2.0 release date will be in February 2012.The company says that the OS has been delayed “until we are confident we have fully met the expectations” of its customers and developers, obviously keen to avoid yet another misstep after a catalogue of errors over the past months.RIM has also decided that integrating BBM directly on to the tablet will have to wait until “a subsequent BlackBerry PlayBook OS release”.The company hasn’t given a reason, but it sounds as though RIM’s having a spot ...

T-Mobile and Samsung today announced the Samsung Exhibit II 4G. The new phone is similar to the first Exhibit in most respects, but switches from a Samsung Hummingbird processor to a Qualcomm Snapdragon. The screen is also slightly larger, at 3.7 inches compared to 3.5 for the original model.
