Sony Ericsson Picks Ingram Micro

Sony Ericsson today announced that it has partnered with Ingram Micro to help distribute its unlocked smartphones to retail points in the U.S. Ingram Micro ships devices to retailers world wide, and has a number of U.S.-based reseller partners, including Amazon.com, Best Buy, Buy.com, and Newegg.com. When Ingram Micro starts shipping Sony Ericsson’s smartphones later this month, they will become available to U.S. buyers from the aforementioned retailers. Google Updates Android 4.0 NDK, Adds APIs

Google today provided a new release of the Android 4.0 native developer kit so that application writers can access new native APIs (application programming interfaces). The first new native API is called low-level streaming multimedia. This API allows applications to assert total control over media as it is passed from the source to the handset. Google notes an example could be a media application that retrieves data, applies proprietary encryption/decryption, and then delivers it to the handset. CTIA to Appeal San Francisco Radiation Ruling

The CTIA Wireless Association has indicated that it plans to appeal the ruling in its lawsuit against the city of San Francisco over a law that requires retail stores to display warning signs about radiation from cell phones. The ruling, handed down on October 28, severely limited the original intent of the law, but the CTIA believes that even the narrowed ordinance is unacceptable. It is asking the federal appeals court to block the ordinance from going into effect on November 30. AT&T is now offering a new BlackBerry smartphone, the Bold 9900. The Bold 9900 offers 4G HSPA+ (not LTE) data support, as well as a 2.8-inch VGA touchscreen display along with the traditional QWERTY keyboard below. The device runs on RIM’s BlackBerry OS 7 and is, according to the manufacturer, the thinnest BlackBerry available to date at just 10.5mm (0.41in).
