Huawei Mercury Touches Down in Cricket’s Lineup

Cricket Communications today announced the addition of the Huawei Mercury to its roster of Android smartphones. The Mercury in driven by a 1.4GHz processor and includes a 4-inch FWVGA touch display; 8-megapixel camera with autofocus, LED flash, and HD video capture; a VGA user-facing camera; and Wi-Fi, Stereo Bluetooth, and mobile hotpot for up to five other devices. Cricket Communications today announced that owners of the Huawei Ascend II can now use the Muve Music service. Customers wishing to use Muve Music will need to update to the Muve Music plan, which offers the music downloads, ringtones, and ringback tones, as well as unlimited messaging, unlimited 3G data, unlimited mobile video, and nationwide voice for $65 per month. Huawei and ZTE Over Security Concerns

A committee has been formed in the House of Representatives to investigate both Huawei and ZTE over fears that the companies give “the Chinese government an opportunity for greater foreign espionage.” The federal government has kept a close eye on both firms and limited their ability to expand into the U.S. by blocking acquisitions and other business deals. “The Chinese are aggressively hacking into our nation’s networks, threatening our critical infrastructure and stealing secrets worth millions of dollars in intellectual property from American companies,” ...

Huawei to Buy Symantec Out

Huawei has agreed to buy the 49% stake in its Huawei-Symantec joint venture from Symantec for approximately $530 million. The two companies formed the joint venture in February 2008 and it has lost money ever since. Huawei believes that by owning the entire venture, it will shore up its ability to support business customers.
