BBM 6.1 Hits BlackBerry Beta Zone

Research In Motion today announced the availability of BlackBerry Messenger 6.1 beta in the Beta Zone. Key new features of the software include animated avatars, 12 new emoticons, colored chat bubbles, and the ability to update the BBM avatar by using the camera from within BBM. RIM Adds Voice Guidance to Traffic 3.0

Research In Motion today announced the beta availability of Traffic 3.0. This new version of RIM’s navigation software adds voice guidance for hands-free navigation over either Bluetooth or via the car’s speaker system. BlackBerry Bold 9900 smartphone

AT&T is now offering a new BlackBerry smartphone, the Bold 9900. The Bold 9900 offers 4G HSPA+ (not LTE) data support, as well as a 2.8-inch VGA touchscreen display along with the traditional QWERTY keyboard below. The device runs on RIM’s BlackBerry OS 7 and is, according to the manufacturer, the thinnest BlackBerry available to date at just 10.5mm (0.41in). The Torch 9860 offers a large and bright 3.7-inch full touchscreen display to support web browsing and picture viewing. Java Gmail App for BlackBerries

Google announced this week that it will no longer continue to develop or support the native application it created for the BlackBerry platform. The application, if already installed, will continue to work, but it will become unavailable for new download starting November 22. AT&T today announced that it will begin offering the BlackBerry 9900 Bold and the 9860 Torch on November 6. Both will be available in stores and online that day. The 9900 Bold will cost $199.99 with a new agreement and the 9860 Torch will cost $99.99 with a new agreement. AT&T also announced that the 9360 Curve will be available starting November 20 for $29.99 (government customers will have access to the 9360 starting November 14) with a new agreement.
