Microsoft, Nokia to put $24 million into app development for Windows Phone

Nokia and Microsoft have announced that each company will invest 9 million EUR (US$12 million) into a mobile application development program at Aalto University in Finland over the next three years. The new AppCampus program will focus on creating mobile apps for the Windows Phone ecosystem, but it will also produce apps for Nokia’s S40 and Symbian-based phones. Students enrolled will be coached on commercialization of their ideas, and they will retain all of the intellectual property rights for the apps that they develop within AppCampus. Samsung Says Android 4.0 Headed to Note in Q2

Samsung today announced that it will be distributing a large “Premium Suite” system update to the Galaxy Note during the second quarter that includes Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and other new features. The update will add a number of new S Pen-optimized apps to the Note, including Shape Match and Formula Match, which help correct and digitize geometric shapes and numeric formulas. U.S. Cellular’s First LTE Device Isn’t a Phone

U.S. Cellular today announced the availability of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1. It is the first device to be sold by U.S. Cellular that can access its nascent LTE 4G network. The LTE network is active in just a handful of markets so far, including Madison and Milwaukee, Wisc.; Wichita Falls and Lawton, Okla.; Portland, Houlton, Augusta, and Bangor, Me.; Greenville and Elizabeth City, N.C.; and Des Moines, Waterloo, Cedar Rapids, and Davenport, Iowa. AT&T Delivers Ice Cream Sandwich to HTC Vivid

AT&T has begun distributing Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich to the HTC Vivid smartphone. Nokia Offering DLNA-Based ‘Play To’ App to Lumia Phones

Nokia recently released a beta application called Play To, which uses DLNA technology to allow Lumia smartphone users to share media from their device to other DLNA-compatible equipment. Huawei Fusion Available As an AT&T GoPhone

AT&T recently began selling the Huawei Fusion via its GoPhone prepaid service. The Fusion is an Android 2.3 Gingerbread smartphone that has a 3.5-inch display with 320 x 480 pixels.
