Snapdragon may be the most popular mobile CPU out there, but Kirin also has many fans. Soon it may have more than before; Richard Yu, CEO of Huawei, has stated that his company is mulling over the possibility of selling Kirin processors to other firms. Kirin has, for a long time now, been reserved only for Huawei’s own products, with the firm believing that their own CPU gives them an edge against the competition – notion that Qualcomm might find funny. This tradition, though, may be changed in the near future.

The decision makes sense, seeing how the US-China trade war is a massive gut punch to Huawei’s smartphone sales. It is easy to understand that Huawei wants to even out the monetary losses of that unfortunate event by selling its Kirin CPU. The more or less nostalgic ”our own processor” approach has to give room to the more mundane issues of making money.

Still, for now all of this is just a rumour. We do not know when, if at all, will Huawei begin to offer Kirin to other firms out there, nor which firms exacly would it be.
