Rich Communication Services, also known as RCS, is a unified advanced messaging solution by Google. It is an evolution of the standard SMS format, allowing users to send even 8000 characters long messages as well as offering a variety of other functions, such as typing indicators, location sharing, creating groups up to 100 members large and sending messages over Wi-Fi instead of cell network. Verizon is not the first carrier to support RCS in the US: T-Mobile, SK Telecom and a few others have already made it available to their clients. It is not known if and when other Samsung devices will receive that option.
