U.S. warns Germany to not take Huawei's help in building its 5G network

Wall Street Journal reports that U.S. may withhold sharing intelligence with Germany if the latter country continues to co-operate with Huawei. U.S. Ambassador to Germany, one Richard A. Grenell, wrote a letter to German economic minister. This letter, according to the Wall Street Journal,

”…marks the first known time the U.S. has explicitly warned an ally that refusing to ostracise Huawei could lessen security cooperation with Washington. Among other things, European security agencies have relied heavily on U.S. intelligence in the fight against terrorism.

U.S. officials declined to say whether other countries have received or would receive similar warnings… [Grenell] noted that the code running on 5G equipment would need frequent updates and was so complex that the potential for so-called backdoors and other system vulnerabilities couldn’t be ruled out even if Huawei were to let regulators regularly inspect its software.”

U.S. tries its best to antagonize as many countries as possible against the Chinese company; official reason for this is U.S. concerns that Huawei may be committing espionage for China. Ren Zhengei, founder of Huawei continues to insist that the company does not do that: a number of security experts, on the other hand, repeat that every Chinese company is required by law to share any information they have whenever the government demands it. Huawei’s help with the 5G network in Germany could make it very much open for whatever espionage acions Huawei and, by proxy, China would want to commit. Many countries around the world, e.g. Poland, Australia and UK, have already followed U.S. ban on Huawei. Two Huawei employees in Poland are currently under investigation for possible espionage.
