Facebook account name will now be a required element of US visa application

For better or for worse, these are interesting times for those who want to live in the US. I will not argue for or against the new American government, but it is easy to see that there has been a number of changes in the US security policy lately: citizens of several Arabic countries are banned from traveling to the country; electronic devices are banned from aboard planes flying to the country; and now this – Facebook account name becoming a required part of an application for the US visa. Yep, you read me right. From now on, those who want to receive an USA visa will have to input additional information into their application. Some of the newly requires info is: profile name of any social media accounts the applicant has, e-mail address, phone number, history of travel and work.

New data (some of it was required before as well, but was rarely actually checked) is supposed to equip the officials with more information on the applicant, allowing them to better recognize whether or not is he or she a threat to homeland security. Paranoia or healthy caution? Overkill or adapting to modern times? You decide. I would like to hear what you think about it.
