”This smartphone will self-destruct in three, two, one...”

A group of scientists from King Abdullah University of Science & Technology is working on a technology that allows for a remote or self-destruction of a smartphone. Their aim is to construct a special polymer that would be put inside the device. This polymer could then be triggered, by various means, to produce a large amount of heat. Heat would cause it to bloat, eventually causing the bulging mass to break the nearby phone chip. Scientists plan to create a number of triggers that could make the phone autodestruct. Among their ideas are; remote control, light detection (e.g., phone could explode when its sensors feel sunlight falling on the screen), after leaving a GPS-alloted zone or upon sensing pressure. Scientists predict that their idea might find place in the banking and administration markets (and James Bond movies).
