McAfee, well known producer of antivirus software, issues a warning against new cyberthreat. Acecard (also know as Terec) attacks applications used to make online payments. After installing itself on the user’s phone, virus changes payment methods, adding a request for a number of personal information like passwords and credit cards (nothing new here) as well as (that is actually new) a selfie with the user’s ID card.
The virus infects phones mainly by way of downloading and installing software from the unofficial sources, so staying faithful to the official, safe sources should keep your phone virus-free.
This method of wangling personal data may seems ridiculous, but identifying by selfie pictures becomes more and more widespread these days – for example, MasterCard is already doing it. Should we be afraid, or is there nothing to worry about? You tell me.
