Nokia today began delivering a system update to the MeeGo-powered N9 smartphone. The new system software offers a wide range of benefits, including: NFC tag reading; music controls on lock screen; photo and video shooting with filters; improved multitasking and memory handling; Swype; background noise cancellation; easier app closing by swiping down; and new indicators on the standby screen for calendar and other alerts. PocketNow has gotten its hands on images of and information about a new smartphone from HTC that is purportedly going to be the first quad-core smartphone to hit the market. Called the Edge, the phone is said to be powered by a Tegra 3 processor from NVIDIA and have a 4.7-inch display.PocketNow’s sources say the Edge is just over 10mm thick, and the 4.7-inch display sports a 720p HD resolution. HTC Commits to Upgrading 7 Smartphones to Android 4.0

HTC announced today via its Facebook page that it plans to update a number of its smartphones to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich in early 2012. In the U.S., HTC will update the Rezound, EVO Design 4G, and Amaze 4G. In world markets, HTC will update the Sensation, Sensation XL, and Sensation XE, as well as the EVO 3D. Verizon Offering Double the Data Promotion for 4G Phones

Verizon Wireless today announced a data promotion that will be available to those who buy smartphones starting November 8. Customers who subscribe to a 4G smartphone data plan will receive double the amount of monthly data. For example, someone who chooses the 2GB plan for $30 per month will receive 4GB of data per month for the same $30. Verizon says the promotion is available to new and existing customers.
