Yesterday Motorola Mobility announced its financial and business performance results for Q3 of 2011. In the report, the company stated that it had revenues of $3.3 billion, which is up 11 percent from Q3 in 2010. The revenue came mostly from the sale of its mobile devices, of which it shipped 11.6 million units. 4.8 million of those devices shipped were smartphones, and 100,000 of them were XOOM tablets. In Q3 of 2010, Motorola shipped only 9.1 million total devices and 3.8 million smartphones.

These figures show that Motorola has failed to increase the mix of its more profitable smartphones in the devices shipped for the quarter. Smartphones accounted for 41 percent of devices shipped in Q3 of both 2011 and 2010.

Even with the improved revenue figures, Motorola still posted a loss for the quarter, though a slightly smaller one. The company claims to have lost $32 million for the quarter, having lost $34 million in the same quarter of the prior year. Motorola Mobility says it has $3.3 billion of cash-type assets on hand at this time.

Motorola also stated that it expects its planned purchase by Google will be completed by late 2011 or early 2012, pending regulatory approval.
