”Hypertrending”, a possibly creepy app function that shows you the most visited spots in town

Hypertrending is a new app function announced by the Foursquare, creators of the Foursquare City Guide search-and-discovery mobile app. The goal of this feature, currently limited to Austin, Texas, is to show its users how many people have recently been to any of the more well-known spots in town: pubs, cinemas, restaurants, clubs et cetera. Limited range of the app is Foursquare's way of avoiding possible privacy concerns; they want to test it out first to see how, quote, ”creepy” do people find using it. If the results will be satisfactory, they will consider releasing it in the rest of the US. Foursquare creates an image of being a company who cares deeply about the privacy of its users; whether that is true or just a facade is anyone's guess.
