The ”Chernobyl” HBO show did the trick - Ukraine government has allowed tourists to visit the control room of the closed nuclear power plant, the place where the catastrophic meltdown has started. The control room can be visited despite it still exhibiting radiation 40 thousand times higher than the norm; every visit is limited to 5 minutes, though, and every visitor has to wear protective suit before coming anywhere near the place.
Just this year, 85 thousand tourists went to Chernobyl to see the ruined power plant. I plan a visit there myself.
