Up until today, every Twitter user was able to add up to 1000 followed accounts per day. Now, Twitter's rulers have slashed this number to 400. The reason behind this is to stop spammers who used to follow and then stop following large numbers of other people in order to quickly gain lots of followers of their own - something that is known as the ”followers churn” among Twitters. Twitter does notdo this out of spite, as followers churn is actually prohibited by Twitter's rules.
Perhaps it will help people on that platform become a little less insane over their need to acquire e-attention.
