Samsung upgrades the deepfake tech. One picture is now enough to create a fake video

Samsung laboratory in Russia (Russian-placed lab working on technology with the word ”fake” in its name? Hmm…) works on improving the so-called ”realistic neural talking heads” mechanism. This mechanism makes it possible to animate static pictures, and doing it so well that the fakes are difficult to recognise from real video records. The effects of Samsung’s deepfake tech can be seen in these GIFs – Samsung has managed to create very lifelike records. Those of you who are more curious about that process can look into this video, in which Samsung explains how that technology works.

Deepfake’s creators believe that this tech can be used in video games and movies. Well… seeing how it was already used to make a fake porn movie, I would say it has the cinematic part covered :p. Hot flicks aside, deepfake has lots of potential to be used for bad – fake materials created with its help can be used to frame or besmirch innocent people and more.
