According to Bloomberg and its anonymous sources, US government really believes that the rest of the West will follow suit in its ban on Huawei products. As quoted from Bloomberg’s source, ”the U.S. anticipates that many nations will effectively bar the company’s equipment from their next-generation telecom networks”. No specific nations have been named, although Japan has already banned Huawei from participating in its 5G infrastructure building.

Even limited cooperation of Europe and US would greatly help the latter in its trade war against China. Huawei may be saying that it is fine without the US market, but losing it is a serious strike against the company’s success, especially since it also means losing Google and Android. On the other hand, China has means of striking back against the US, and other countries of the West may not be interested in taking part of that punishment onto themselves.
