MicroSD Express, a new quality in transfer speed and battery life

The SD Association has used this year’s Mobile World Congress to unveil microSD Express, the newest microSD card to enter the market. Express will tap the PCIe interface to reach a max data transfer rate of 985 MB/s, something that is possible thanks to the PCIe 3.1 and NVMe v1.3 specifications. There is a lot of technical mumbo-jumbo involved, so lets just concentrate on the plus sides of the device, namely increased transfer speed as well as decreased power consumption. The cards will supposedly be backward compatible, which means that they will work with older smartphones.
