ListenYo, or how to listen to YouTube content without punishing your Internet connection

Have you ever been in a situation where your boss came to you at work and told you to stop watching YouTube as it strains the office’s web connection? I have and let me tell you, it was not pleasant. Other than giving me a mild case of guilt as well as showing how poor our Internet connection is, it also made me think: okay, so how can I listen to YouTube’s content? You see, I have never actually ”watched” stuff on YT at work – I listened to it. Sometimes to music, sometimes to movie or video game bits, sometimes to YT shows or audiobooks. Still, along with YouTube’s audio came videos, naturally, and my boss would have none of it. That made me look for other solutions and, lo and behold, pretty soon after I have come upon ListenYo.

ListenYo is basically exacly what I needed, namely a YouTube without the videos but with all the audio. It is a website that converts YT’s videos into audio-only format and allows playing them for free. The website is quick and efficient, using up four times less Internet data than YouTube does. It is a bit barebones, and the interface could be slightly better (having to go find the favoured material through the browser to unfavourite it is a bit retarded), but most of it can be forgiven as being ”functional”.

So, yeah. If you are at work or other place where you do not want to strain your Internet, and there is something on YouTube that you would like to listen to but not neccessarily to watch, check ListenYo.
