ZTE and China Unicorn have performed the first ever 5G connection

On January 18th 2019, ZTE has announced that it accomplished first ever successful 5G connection, compatible with the 3GPP Rel-15 protocol and in NSA mode. The connection has taken place in Shenzhen, one of China cities taking part in China Unicorn’s pilot program. The phone that served to undertake the connection was a prototype model with the built-in 5G connectivity. Other than the phone call, other functions of the smartphone have been tested: browsing websites, online video watching and Weichat group chats.
