Apple has officially admitted that its chip blocks unauthorized repairs

The fact that Apple intentionally makes it difficult for us to fix our devices anywhere else than in their shops is nothing new; what is new is that Apple has officially admitted doing so. In an interview with American newssite The Verge, Apple has stated that the T2 chip built into their devices makes it impossible to replace either their motherboard or the Touch ID elements. Attempt to have them replaced in an unauthorized shop will block the device, after which it can only be unlocked at the Apple store.

What do you think about this? On the one hand, repairs done by an official Apple store are a guarantee, at least on paper, of quality; on the other hand, unauthorized shops’ prices are much more humane than what Apple wants from us.
