Oh man. Facebook has been hacked again. That is so interesting

I understand that having our private accounts hacked by the evildoing thirt parties is something worth of note, but Facebook has had so many problems, lesser and greater, this year that any more are just wearing me out. Still, a journalist’s duty is to keep you, dear readers, informed, and that is what I will do. That and, well, it is my job.

So, what happened this time? Oh, nothing much; someone just hacked Facebook and managed to gain access to up to 50 million accounts. Is it Tuesday already?* The hackers have gained access to our accounts by using a vulnerability in the website’s privacy testing mechanisms (FB does not know, or so it says, any details). They had full insight into the accounts that they broke into, up to and including private messages.

Facebook is currently investigating the situation. As a temporary countermeasure, FB has turned off the ability to preview our accounts from 3rd person’s perspective. They also reset token-based sessions, which is why some of you had to relog into the website yesterday. Sounds like changing your password might be a good idea.

*It is, which makes my hilarious joke more so. Ha haa.
